“Migrants are continuously arriving in Serbia along the Balkan migration route, and from there are moving on towards Hungary”, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on Hungarian M1 television’s Sunday evening current affairs program.
Citing UN figures, György Bakondi said that there are some 7300-7500 migrants in Serbia, from where migrants are moving towards the Hungarian border “with increased activity”.
Mr. Bakondi noted that illegal immigrants are even crossing the frozen waters of Lake Tisza in an attempt to enter the country. “This is happening thanks to a tip from a people smuggler with a degree of local knowledge”, he added.
“The police and military personnel are guarding the border successfully and illegal immigrants are being stopped at the border security fence or are being apprehended within the 8-kilometre border zone and accompanied back across the border to the nearest transit zone”, the Chief Security Advisor said.
