The Hungarian authorities find migrants aboard railway carriages on a daily basis, but they are immediately transported back to the other side of the fence on the southern border, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor tot the Prime Minister said on the Monday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.

Mr Bakondi remarked: there is no way of knowing whether they were awaiting „a transfer or their transportation onwards” towards their destination.

The Chief Advisor said at his Monday press conference: the Hungarian Government believes it is a threat that there is no genuine change in the European Union’s migration policy. He stressed: 16 December will be an important date as this is when the meeting of the European Council is to place the long-term, new resolution of the quotas on its agenda repeatedly which would introduce the automatic distribution of migrants on a statutory level without an upper limit as a core element of the EU’s official migration policy.

Mr Bakondi said on M1: this would mean the integration of a mandatory quota regime into the legal system which would amount to the distribution among EU Member States of all migrants arriving in Europe without an upper limit. In his view, this would be an invitation for migrants, against which the Hungarian Government is pursuing active and intensive international activities by way of diplomatic channels, at public forums as well as at negotiations.

Hungary has proposed a number of initiatives as to how the situation could be managed outside the borders of the EU against the background of the protection of the external borders, he said. He mentioned as an example that Hungary has a vested interest in the stabilisation of Egypt in this respect as well, with which „we could be partners” also in the management of migration, beyond economic cooperation, but Tunisia, too, could be a similar partner in this area.
