“Increasing numbers of migrants are attempting to cross the Hungarian-Romanian border”, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on Hungarian M1 television’s Saturday evening current affairs program.

According to György Bakondi, the migrants are not only attempting to cross the Schengen border via the green border, but also by hiding in trucks and railway waggons, for instance.

“The Romanian border security authorities are guarding the border efficiently and are working in good cooperation with their counterparts on the Hungarian side of the border”, Mr. Bakondi said, adding that the Hungarian authorities are sending migrants who are apprehended on the Hungarian side of the border back to the Romanian side.

In reply to a question concerning whether the Government was planning to construct a border security fence along the Romanian-Hungarian border, the Chief Security Advisor said that this could occur if made necessary by the border security situation, but only following discussions with the Romanian party.
