On Saturday 20 August, Hungary’s national holiday, the National Flag was raised with military honours on Kossuth Lajos Square in front of the Hungarian parliament building.

The flag was raised in the presence of President of the Republic János Áder, as the Ceremonial Guards of the Hungarian Defence Forces played the National Anthem. The Central Military Orchestra and the National Ceremonial Cavalry Unit were also present at the event.

The ceremony was also attended by: Speaker of the House László Kövér; Minister of Defence István Simicskó; Chief of Defence Tibor Benkő; György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister; representatives of a number of government and state agencies; members of the diplomatic corps and their families; and hundreds of members of the public.
