The government approaches all issues related to illegal migration from the viewpoint of national interests, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on the Friday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.
György Bakondi added that the people had clearly stated their will in elections and national consultations; they do not want masses of migrants of unknown identity with unclear intentions to arrive in the country illegally and uncontrolled.
By contrast, it is the aspiration of a number of liberal groups that the Hungarians stop guarding the borders and let migrants in.
The chief security advisor said they expect these attacks to continue. They honour the decision of the Luxembourg court, but they also honour and respect national unity and the will stated by members of the nation. Therefore, they decided to do away with the possibility of submitting asylum requests at the border; asylum-seekers will only be able to do so at foreign representations, he added.
He observed that there are genuine refugees who are fleeing from the fights in Syria to Turkey. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact in Turkey they are not persecuted by anyone, and so there is no reason for them to move on. Those coming to Hungary, too, transit through minimum 3 to 4 safe countries, Mr Bakondi said.
