The number of active coronavirus patients is decreasing significantly and continuously, the Chief Medical Officer said at the Wednesday online press conference of the Operational Group responsible for the containment of the coronavirus epidemic.
Cecília Müller said this is owing to the fact that the number of recovered patients is increasing steadily, totalling 2,355 persons at present.
The number of recovered patients is double the number of active infections, she added.
At present, there are 4,027 confirmed cases of infection in Hungary, while the number of active infection currently stands at 1,121. In the past 24 hours, another ten positive cases have been registered, and a man aged 37 has died of the disease brought on by coronavirus infection. With this, the number of fatalities related to the coronavirus has risen to 551; 344 persons are being treated in hospital, including twenty requiring assisted ventilation.
Forty-one per cent of active cases were registered in Budapest, while 59 per cent in the countryside, she said.
She added that there was no significant change in data relating to 100,000 inhabitants; the number of confirmed infections falling on 100,000 inhabitants is 109 in Budapest, 96 in Zala County, 99 in Komárom-Esztergom County, 89 in Fejér County and 46 in Pest County.
According to her information, four of the ten new infections were registered in Budapest, two in Komárom-Esztergom County, three in Pest County and one in Hajdú-Bihar County.
She further mentioned that in Budapest 328 persons had died, while in the countryside 223, including 91 in Pest County, 43 in Fejér County, 37 in Komárom-Esztergom County, 16 in Zala County, 8 in Veszprém County, 6 in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County and Csongrád-Csanád County each, 3 in Tolna County, 2 in Baranya County, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hajdú-Bihar County, Heves County and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County each, and 1 in Nógrád County and Somogy County each. No one has died due to the virus in Békés County, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County and Vas County.
In answer to a question relating to the death of the 37-year-old man, she said at times – though rarely – the disease progresses very swiftly.
Typically, elderly persons suffering from chronic diseases continue to fall into higher risk categories, she observed.
The government office is conducting a disease control investigation in the case; the deceased man’s contact persons are being monitored closely, she said.
Ms. Müller drew attention to the importance of the disinfecting of holiday homes. She stressed that spending the summer holidays in Hungary is safe. At the same time, she advised those planning to travel abroad to inform themselves thoroughly about the epidemic situation in the country of destination and the relevant rules before setting out with the assistance of the consular services.
