The number of countries which reject the mandatory resettlement quotas of illegal migrants is increasing, and leaders of the European Union are perceiving this correctly, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister stated on the public service television news channel M1 on Friday evening.
György Bakondi said the application of mandatory resettlement quotas based on decisions that are regardless of the will of the given state are becoming unacceptable for ever more countries.
Leaders of the EU, in particular the countries in the rotating presidency are perceiving this correctly, he added.
He highlighted it is no coincidence that German federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer recently said that there could be room for options of flexible solidarity other than the resettlement of asylum-seekers in the EU’s common asylum system.
The Hungarian government itself shares this view, Mr Bakondi pointed out. He added that while Hungary does not support mandatory resettlement quotas, in the interest of European security and keeping those who are setting out at home it is prepared to make financial sacrifices or to offer expert support.
The Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said the development of EU’s new migration policy is currently under way, and Hungary will do everything it can to enforce Hungarian interests and experiences and to prevent Europe from making the mistakes again that it made between 2015 and 2020 when masses of people in the millions flowed into Europe, creating a grave public security, social and public health situation.
