According to György Bakondi, with the entry into force of the legal border closure, children under the age of 14 years will be taken to child protection institutions, but only those who are unaccompanied. Children coming with their families will not be separated from their parents.
The Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on the Tuesday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1 that the authorities will determine the age based on the available data and the account of the accompanying persons. Older children aged 17-18 present, however, more of a problem. By his account, this is the case because asylum-seekers over the age of 18 years often claimed to be minors in the hope of receiving preferential treatment.
He also said that there were 67 persons in total in open camps from where they will be moved to the transit zones with the entry into force of the legal border closure.
He reiterated that in 2015 more than a hundred thousand asylum applications were submitted, but the applicants „disappeared” before the closing of the procedures: their goal was to be transferred to open camps upon the submission of their applications, from where they were able to move on to Western-Europe.
