György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister told Hungarian television channel M1 that this year over 1800 people have been apprehended within the territory of the Hungarian-Serbian border and accompanied back to the other side of the fence.
Mr. Bakondi said that the Government has again extended the state of emergency declared by mass migration for the whole territory of Hungary.
As for some news articles claiming that there is no unrest at the Hungarian border, it is not being attacked; Mr. Bakondi said that reviewing recent data, this does not correspond to reality.
He reminded that in addition to the Serbian section, there are illegal border crossing attempts at the Ukrainian, Romanian and Croatian section as well.
Mr. Bakondi added that circumstances witnessed in Europe also warrant the extension of the state of emergency. Many arrive in the Greek islands through the Balkan route, for instance. From Turkey in Romanian territory, the increase is three-fold, and a new route has also emerged, which instead of the Serbian section, leads to Austria through Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia.
The Chief Security Advisor also reminded that continuous monitoring and intensive protection is necessary. Over last year, the Serbian-Hungarian border was under constant pressure; therefore it cannot be declared that this migration wave is over.
