Decision-making mechanisms for the preparation of further contracts related to the enlargement of the Paks atomic power station must be shortened, and it is therefore imperative that MVM Paks II Zrt. (the company set up for the preparation of the construction of the new power station blocks) come under direct state control, Attila Aszódi, government commissioner for the maintenance of the performance of the Paks Atomic Power Station said at the press conference held by the Government Spokesperson on Wednesday in Budapest.
Attila Aszódi reiterated, in January 2014, the Government entered into an inter-state agreement with Russia, as part of which preparations have begun for the construction of two new atomic power station blocks. MVM Paks II. Atomerőmű Fejlesztő Zrt. is delegated under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office in the interest of shortening the timeframe necessary for the adoption of the proprietary decisions that are relevant to the preparation of the further implementation agreements, the government commissioner said, and stressed, the preparation of three implementation agreements is already under way.
One of them lays down the terms and conditions relating to the planning, design and construction of the power station, the second one provides for the terms and conditions of future operations and maintenance, while the third one will define the responsibilities related to the supply of fuel and the management of burnt atomic fuel.
These agreements are currently being negotiated with the Russian party, he said, adding that, according to plans, the agreements will be completed for signing before the end of this year.
Csaba Baji, Chair-Chief Executive Officer of MVM Magyar Villamos Művek Zrt. said as part of his account of the decision of the company’s General Meeting held on Wednesday that MVM Paks II. Zrt. established in June 2012 will be transferred to direct state ownership; however, the MVM Group will continue to support the largest project of the 21st century. MVM has a vested interest in being able to supply electricity in large quantities safely and at affordable prices also in the future, the Chair-Chief Executive Officer said.
Government spokesperson Éva Kurucz announced at the press conference that the preparation of the central budget for 2015 has begun. “2015 will be a year of accountability”, she said, adding that, in consequence of greater accountability, more money will be left in the household budgets of Hungarian families which will in turn have a positive effect on demand. It is the objective of the Government to launch a large-scale bureaucracy reduction in Hungary as it is in the best interest of both members of the public and businesses that they should not be faced with disproportionately large bureaucratic burdens in their day-to-day affairs, the government spokesperson said.
