The situation at the Greek-Turkish border is very serious, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on the Friday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.
György Bakondi added that there are regular clashes between migrant groups and Greek border policing agencies.
He also highlighted that the situation on the Greek islands is nothing short of untenable.
More than 42,000 migrants have amassed. In one camp, a migrant infected with the coronavirus has been found, he added.
Mr Bakondi said it is a significant change compared with 2015 that the European Union is now fully in favour of the protection of the external borders. The chief advisor highlighted that in the context of illegal migration the Hungarian government will not support any kind of border-opening, open borders principle or distribution by quotas.
