According to the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, György Bakondi, the current situation and the expected situation in spring could both cause problems along the Balkan migration route.

Speaking on Hungarian M1 television’s Friday evening current affairs program, Mr. Bakondi said Hungarian law enforcement organisations and secret service agencies are both monitoring the situation closely, and the Government is also being regularly informed. In view of the incident at Bihać, where migrants clashed with police in late October, it has been decided that the Croatian stretch of the border must be reinforced through the redeployment of border guard companies.

The Chief Security Advisor also stated that in view of the fact that Bosnia has also introduced important measures, including sending those arriving by train in Bihać back to Sarajevo, and Croatia is also amassing a major police presence on the border, “the situation could be resolved”. “Of course, if continuous inflow is impeded, the migrants could get aggressive”, he added.

With relation to the issue of the anonymous debit cards being distributed among migrants, Mr. Bakondi said a “strange coalition” has developed between the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the European Commission and businessman George Soros. According to the Chief Security Advisor, the latter “has committed 500 million dollars” to this project.
