According to the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, the European Union has been proposing the idea of introducing mandatory quotas every year for at least the past 3-4 years, and based on a speech by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday, countries that do not want to take part in this “must be fined”.
On Hungarian M1 television’s Friday evening current affairs program, György Bakondi was asked with relation to the fact that according to Angela Merkel it is impossible for certain member states to declare that they will not participate in any way in the solidary distribution of migrants. The German Chancellor spoke about this on Thursday in Berlin.
According to Mr. Bakondi, although Angela Merkel talks about solidarity, we should understand this to mean the acceptance of the quotas.
“The position of the Hungaria Government is based on the mandate it has received from the population, and many millions of citizens have expressed their opinions at various national consultations, referendums and elections”, the Chief Security Advisor reiterated. “Based on this, it is absolutely clear that the large majority of the population believes that illegal immigration must not be allowed to enter Hungary, in addition to which security and Hungarian traditions that preserve Christian culture should not be given up”, he continued.
“Migration, along with its negative consequences, has grown to become the central issue of the European Parliament elections”, he stressed.
Mr. Bakondi was also asked about the Budapest migration conference organised by the Mathias Corvinus College, with relation to which he said: “This is a series of lectures that analyse, evaluate and present migration in a diverse way and from many perspectives, with the participation of scientists and public figures. It is about enabling the summarisation of scientific opinion and the opinions of those who practice politics, which may assist decision-makers”. “At this forum, discussions will concern experiences and possibly the prognoses”, he added.
