According to Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi, the European Union’s until now “mistaken migration policy” could change following the European Parliament (EP) elections if the pro-immigration forces acquire a majority in the Parliament.
Speaking on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday morning current affairs program, Mr. Bakondi said that in this case the “attraction” that encourages people to set out for Europe will be reduced, because countries will not admit migrants and will reinforce their border security. The Chief Security Advisor said he hopes a Europe Helps program will be realised on the model of the Hungary Helps Program, which will provide assistance on site rather than bringing the problem into Europe.
Mr. Bakondi said that in his opinion these changes would in themselves make the continuation of the Sophia operation launched on the Mediterranean to combat people smuggling, and which performs the sea rescue of migrants, pointless. “The operation is currently suspended because there is no agreement between the participant member states”, he added.
The Chief Security Advisor also mentioned that an increase in the number of migrants is being seen along the Balkan migration route, and on some days up to seventy migrants are attempting to illegally cross the Hungarian border despite knowing that they have a minimal chance of getting through. “This means that the EU’s measures, such as for instance the financial assistance via debit cards and the high level of funding being provided to non-governmental organisations, are acting as an incentive, and the attraction still exists”, he stated.
Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s “Good morning, Hungary!” show, Mr. Bakondi said the population of Europe would like to live in safety, but this can only be realised if large numbers of people of unknown intent are unable to cross the borders without any form of control, and the Islamisation of Europe comes to an end.
