“The changes that have already occurred in many of Europe’s countries must appear at the next European Union summit, and the migration policy that is endangering the continent must be ended”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said on Hungarian M1 television’s Saturday evening current affairs program.

Mr. Bakondi stressed that thanks to the nation state-level changes that have occurred in recent years, and particularly in recent months, the protection of the population, local culture and national identity are increasingly coming to the fore. “However, the EU leadership is still pushing for the distribution of migrants and the punishment of member states who refuse to comply, despite the fact that the European Union’s fundamental treaties do not include any obligations of this nature”, he added. The Chief Advisor also called for the closure of external borders and for illegal immigrants already in Europe to be shipped home, stressing that “people who cross safe countries illegally and refuse to cooperate with the authorities cannot be regarded as refugees”.

Mr. Bakondi said that the Balkan migration route is under less strain thanks to the EU-Turkey agreement, but, as he explained, the danger is far from over, and the people arriving along this migration route are in the most part from Afghanistan and Iran. “The direction of migration has also changed, and more and more people are setting out towards Italy across the Turkish-Greek land border via Montenegro, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Croatia and Slovenia”, he added. He stressed that in the interests of Balkan security Greece and Macedonia should resolve their disputed issues, meaning the former should no longer block its neighbour’s EU and NATO association processes. The Chief Security Advisor said that in his opinion the situation in the Balkans could also become uncertain as a result of weak law enforcement, and accordingly he does not exclude the possibility of another mass influx.

Mr. Bakondi said he believed the new Italian Government’s domestic security measures were responsible for the fact that more African migrants are targeting Spain, as a result of which he said the situation there could get worse. The pro-admittance decisions of the left-wing Madrid government could give rise to increased tensions in Spain, he added.
