“The number of migrants in the Western Balkans has increased by one third of the previous amount”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday morning current affairs program.
The Chief Advisor said Bosnia-Hercegovina is under major pressure, and the domestic security situation there has worsened significantly.
“Some 7300 illegal border crosses have been apprehended along the Hungarian border alone so far this year. This means that people have been attempting to cross the border illegally every single day for the past eight months, often in large numbers”, he stated.
“Accordingly, the measures that the Hungarian Government introduced when it constructed the border fence and the legal border barrier are extremely useful, effective and necessary”, he emphasised.
Mr. Bakondi also said that the political opinions put forward in recent months corroborate the fact that more and more people in the European Union are also recognising the importance of protecting the external borders, and the fact that domestic security begins at the borders.
“We are convinced that the European Union’s mistaken migration policy must be changed (…), and this change must serve the security of the European people”, the Chief Security Advisor declared.
