The number of immigrants arriving in Spain and Italy by sea will increase as the weather gets warmer according to the prognosis of researchers and intelligence services, the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor on Homeland Security said on Saturday night on TV channel M1.
György Bakondi added: irrespective of the winter period, many migrants are arriving again in Italy by sea.
Due to the strict migration regulations during Matteo Salvini’s term as Minister of Interior the number of people arriving illegally decreased for a while but the current Leftist Government gradually removed the rules, he added.
He emphasized: coming by sea still has a death toll; there are pregnant women and a large number of juveniles currently on board of Ocean Viking, a civil vessel.
The aim should be to prevent illegal border crossings and to provide help locally to those in difficulty so that others would not choose the risky routes offered by people smugglers, György Bakondi said.
