“Of the dangers posed by the Brussels quota package, the security risks are by far the most serious”, Parliamentary State Secretary Csaba Dömötör declared at his press conference in Röszke, which he held jointly with Minister of Defence István Simicskó.
Defence Minister Simicskó stressed that the Government, the Hungarian Defence Force and the Police are doing everything possible to guarantee public safety. “Nobody can step onto Hungarian territory unmonitored”, he said. “We are doing everything possible, but we cannot claim that security is at one hundred percent”, the politician emphasised, adding that “Terrible acts of terrorism have been committed in Europe during the past eighteen months and the perpetrators included some, who had passed through Hungary”.

“The terrorist threat in Europe is gradually increasing and unfortunately an act of terrorism such as those we have seen in Paris, Brussels and Nice, could occur at any time. We are doing everything in the interests of assuring the security of the people of Hungary, but it is unfortunately impossible to exclude these phenomena”, the Minister of Defence said. “The experiences of last autumn and winter indicate that stress shifts from the maritime migration route from Libya to Italy to the Western Balkan route. Accordingly the Government is expecting migration pressure on the southern border to increase”, the Minister told reporters.
“The quota doesn’t solve anything and in fact it distributes the problem; Europe should undertake a much greater role in handling the causes of mass migration in crisis zones”, Mr. Simicskó said. In reply to a question form the press concerning the fact that in Italy refugees are also being housed in army barracks, the Minister said that nothing similar is being planned in Hungary and housing immigrants in state or local government properties is also out of the question. “Italy is under huge pressure from migration. The Italian Prime Minister is highly critical of the European Union because of its inaction”, he added. “We need to reinforce Libya, which has become an unstable state, to that it can close the African migration route”, he said.

Parliamentary State Secretary Csaba Dömötör told reporters that the Government is asking every Hungarian national to take into account the major security risks involved in the Brussels quota package when they decide how to vote. According to Mr. Dömötör: “We love this country and we cannot allow what happened in Brussels or Paris to also occur here”. “Hungarians have paid too high a price for security to now ignore the major risks”, he added.
“Nobody can force the Hungarians to assume the risks associated with uncontrolled immigration, especially in view of the fact that ‘we are in no way responsible’ for the international conflicts that are the cause of mass migration”. Mr. Dömötör stressed.
Among other security risks caused by the quota package, the politician mentioned that Brussels would like to establish a distribution mechanism with no upper limit, base on which they would relocate thousands of immigrants to Hungary. Furthermore, they want to fine those countries that are not prepared to take part in the mandatory relocation programme, in addition to which they also want to make family reunification easier, which would increase the number of immigrants even further.
