“The adoption of the quota system would mean the beginning of irreversible and damaging processes, but this can only occur if the Government is unable to continue its work”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said on Hungarian M1 television’s Sunday evening current affairs program.
Mr. Bakondi stressed that with relation to the quota system we must also take into account the fact that providing for migrants is an extreme burden even for the most affluent Western states, and in Hungary it would endanger the economic achievements of recent years.
The Chief Security Advisor highlighted the fact that Hungary would have to provide the same level of care and services to migrants as Germany or Sweden, otherwise they would not remain in the country to which they have been designated. “The costs would be further increased by the fact that not only would the board and accommodation of migrants have to be provided, but so will their education, as well as travel and other benefits. Furthermore, the expenditure earmarked for migrants would increase year-by-year, and so Hungary would not like to experiment with this solution and accordingly will continue to consistently draw attention to the related public safety and national security risks”, he said.
According to Mr. Bakondi, the Islamic State is most probably behind the increasingly regular lone attacks that have taken place in Europe since 2015. “The perpetrators of these attacks no longer want to negotiate, or often even survive, and their only goal is to terrorise the population and undermine people’s confidence in the state”, he added.
