According to the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, the document that is due to be finalised at the summit of UN heads of state and government in Marrakech in December is worse that all possible expectations and includes all of the elements that could turn Hungary into a country of immigrants.
In an interview on Hungarian M1 television’s Friday evening current affairs program, György Bakondi was asked with relation to the fact that on Wednesday Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary will be exiting the adoption process of the UN Global Compact for Migration.
The Chief Security Advisor declared: “We cannot possible accept the Compact in this form”. “The document regards migration as a fundamental right and bans the restriction of migration movements”, he added.
“According to some opinions this is not mandatory in nature”, Mr Bakondi said, explaining that in his opinion this is not the case, however, because the UN plans to make it mandatory for every member state to draw up an action plan in the interests of implementing the resolution in the most efficient possible manner. “In addition, the resolution will eventually become part of court practice, after which it will serve as a mandatory precedent”, he added.
“Countries that are the source and transit countries for migration are in a large majority within the United Nations, and accordingly it was expected that they would adopt the Compact”, he noted.
