“Hungary’s standpoint is that we must put a stop to the mass inflow of unmonitored migrants across the border and the Schengen requirements must be enforced during border controls, because no Member State of the European Union can talk about homeland security without border security”, the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor on Homeland Security said.
At a press conference, Mr. György Bakondi said that another important element of Hungary’s standpoint was that “we shouldn’t bring the problem into Hungary, but should instead help people to start their lives anew and develop economic opportunities where problems exist, so people don’t set off for Europe to begin with”.
“According to the Hungarian proposal, hotspots for registering refugees should be established outside the territory of the European Union”, the Chief Advisor said. He also mentioned that some two thousand settlements in Hungary had officially decided that they do not want illegal immigrants settling there.
“If and when” the quota system is realised and becomes EU law, compulsory resettlement would not mean migrants living in refugee camps in various countries, but they would be resettled in settlements and the given country would be responsible for financing their required accommodation and housing, social and health care, language courses and job market assistance”, Mr. Bakondi stressed.
“We would like to live in peace within the framework of normal economic development, and we wish to solve our demographic and workforce problems by other means than the mass admittance of migrants”, Mr. Bakondi declared.
