“However slowly, but in the countries of Europe there is a growing awareness of danger that is caused by existing conflicts worldwide and by the presence of terrorists flowing in with illegal, mass and uncontrolled immigration”, György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister stressed on M1 Hungarian television's Thursday morning current affairs programme.

“The internal security situation has declined significantly in most European countries; in recent weeks there have been reports about the discovery of arms stockpiles, prevented acts of terrorism, attacks against police and riots in refugee camps”, Mr. Bakondi recalled.

The Chief Security Advisor declared with relation to the fact that last week a suspected Islamic extremist was exposed among the employees of Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution: This indicates that we are not only talking about spontaneous acts, but also about “appropriate planning, foresight and the use of sleeping agents and other secret service tools”, which intensifies the danger.

“Accordingly, all nation states have introduced further measures in the interests of security and there are now far fewer people criticizing Hungary’s border security measures, more and more countries are copying them”, he added. “Internal security measures that serve the interests of citizens have been left to the nation states as there is still no change in the official politics of the European Union and for the time being the main principle is the unrestricted distribution mechanism with no upper limit”, Mr. Bakondi pointed out.

Speaking on Kossuth Radio's "180 Minutes" programme, Mr. Bakondi stressed with relation to the fact that a Syrian man living in Cyprus, who was charged with committing an act of terrorism in connection with rioting at the Röszke border crossing station last autumn, was sentenced to 10 years in prison at first instance by the Szeged Court of Justice on Wednesday: Hungary is open to everybody who wants to enter the country legally and with good intentions such as economic cooperation, tourism or visiting their family, but “we are protecting our borders and will not submit to any kind of threat.”
