On Sunday evening György Bakondi, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, told Hungarian television channel M1 that next year we must prepare for migration pressure similar to – or even greater than – that of last year.
Mr. Bakondi said that the primary migration route could be the Balkan route, which is currently closed; therefore the Government will make every effort to strengthen border protection.
In reply to a question on whether the country is able to fulfil its border protection duties, even under great pressure, Mr. Bakondi said that the Government hopes that political means can keep the Balkan route closed and thus prevent increased pressure from developing.
The Chief Security Advisor also said that the German government’s proposal for the setting up of a refugee camp in Tunisia was already included some months ago in the ten-point proposal by the Government of Hungary, and the Government hopes that plans will receive increased support.
