Stopping illegal migration is a question of political will, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister stated on Friday evening on the public service television news channel M1.
György Bakondi drew attention to the fact that every nation state on the Balkans has closed down its borders, they are placing migrants in sealed camps and are testing them for coronavirus infection, and by doing so they have succeeded in curbing their movement. This clearly shows, he added, that this is only a question of political will. As the epidemic is also spreading in receiving countries, in the interest of protecting populations, it would be necessary to gather migrants into camps and test them for coronavirus infection also in those states, or else the situation could escalate, he said.
Mr Bakondi stressed that illegal migration had posed health problems also in the past, but with the emergence of the coronavirus epidemic they had reached a new level.
