The delegation headed by the Deputy State Secretary for Priority Social Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office had talks with Joanna Wronecka, Deputy State Secretary of the Polish Foreign Ministry in Warsaw.
The main topics included the state of communication with Jewish communities, with special regard to our cemetery refurbishment programme launched within the framework of the V4, a regional review of pilgrimage tourism, and the governmental responsibilities of possible common development points in Poland and Hungary.
The negotiating partners additionally talked about the efforts made to fight anti-Semitic incidents and the education of young generations in the spirit of tolerance and respect, in connection with the more than a thousand-year-old historical heritage and the culture of the Jewish people in the two countries and in the region.
Csaba Latorcai greatly appreciated the Polish party’s activities, in consequence of which the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews (Muzeum Histori Zydow Polskich) came into being which he described as one of the best museums in Europe to direct our attention to the Jewish people. Joanna Wronecka highlighted that the history of the birth and operation of the museum are a reflection of the revival of Jewish life that may be observed in Poland at present which is manifested in a number of publications and religious, cultural and educational events. These all highlight the co-existence for many centuries and development of the Polish and Jewish peoples.
Both parties agreed that the activities of the Governments and the participating organisations should be showcased more widely in the countries of the Eastern-European region in the interest of the protection of Jewish heritage and in the spirit of the fight against anti-Semitic phenomena.
