Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén reassured Tunisia’s Foreign Minister of Hungary’s support in the North-African country’s commitment to democracy at their meeting held on Thursday, Bertalan Havasi, the head of the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed kormany.hu.
Mr Semjén received Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui, who is in Hungary on an official visit, in the Parliament Building. At the meeting the Deputy Prime Minister stated that Hungary supports Tunisia in its commitment to democracy, and looks upon the successful implementation of last year’s free elections with appreciation.
Hungary views the historical change that took place in Tunisia with understanding as Hungary itself experienced the difficulties of the path leading from dictatorship to democracy a quarter of a century ago, he added. Mr Semjén said that Hungary supports the enhancement of relations between Tunisia and the European Union, and highlighted that the ever strengthening economy of the Visegrád countries stands above the European average.
The head of the North-African country’s diplomacy expressed his gratitude for the fact that, as part of the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme, Hungary is now offering more Tunesian students than before – some 150 – the opportunity to continue their studies in Hungarian institutions of higher education.
