Funds used for public education, if used well, are the best investment in the future for all of us, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office stated on Thursday at the ceremonial inauguration of the refurbished student residence of the local secondary school in Szerencs, in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County.

Gergely Gulyás described the project implemented from local and EU funds worth HUF 250 million as exemplary, highlighting that if grants are used well, similar to this project, they will benefit all of us in the long run.

There is hardly any better investment than education, the Minister observed, adding that the refurbished student residence will provide housing for eighty students studying at the Catholic secondary school and attending vocational training.

He said the government is able to provide primarily the institutional framework, while content is supplied by communities similar to that of this student residence. What the country’s future will be like is decided to a large extent in public education, and therefore the wise utilisation of grants intended for such purposes is important, he said.

Mr Gulyás pointed out that the students that will use the fully refurbished student residence building will find themselves in an enviable position, and it is to be hoped that they will create communities which will continue to exist even beyond the time students spend here.

In her speech, Gabriella Hajnal, President of the Klebelsberg Centre described the student residence that underwent a major refurbishment as part of the project as unique and exemplary, and expressed hope that in the future the building will provide accommodation for many talented youths.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Attila Fülöp, Minister of State for Social Affairs of the Ministry of Human Capacities and Ferenc Koncz (Fidesz), Member of Parliament for the constituency and former Mayor of Szerencs.

As part of the energy efficiency refurbishment works, the building of the student residence founded in 1994, which forms part of the Szerencs School District Centre, was insulated, while the exterior and internal facades as well as the toilet and bathroom units were refurbished.
