After county-ranked cities, the Government will also create a development programme for smaller settlements, the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office announced in Királyhegyes.

From among county-ranked cities, the Government has already agreed on developments with twenty localities, János Lázár said at his public forum held in the Csongrád County village before an audience of some one hundred. He added: the Prime Minister will visit the remaining three cities in the next few months. His next destination will be Salgótarján which he will visit in March.

During the period to come, it will be necessary to take a closer look at the cities with populations ranging between 10 and 50 thousand which play a prominent role in education, culture or the economy. In these towns and cities, it will be reasonable to launch specific development programmes adjusted to their features, the politician said.

The Government would like to forge another alliance with local municipalities in the area of development policy, and to this end, it is prepared to mobilise considerable resources, Mr Lázár stressed.

The politician who is also Member of Parliament for the constituency said that the developments will concern not only cities, but also other larger localities and smaller villages. He added: the Government pays particular attention to settlements with a population below one thousand such as Királyhegyes.
