Hungary fully complies with every EU regulation, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said at a press conference in the break of the Cabinet meeting on migration held in Parliament on Wednesday when he informed the press that the Cabinet was to start consultations on the issue with EU representatives.

Mr. Szijjártó underscored Hungary’s full compliance with every EU regulation and the country’s fulfilment of every obligation towards the EU, and that “we are not talking about the suspension of the application of any EU legislation in Hungary. No such decision has been adopted”.

The government has been informed that Austria and ten other EU Member States intend to turn back economic immigrants, illegal migrants to Hungary. “We do not agree with this, with regard to the fact – and this is item number seven – that these illegal migrants did not enter the territory of the European Union in Hungary but did so – based on a method of elimination – via Greece”, he said.

The government called upon the Minister of Justice to initiate consultations with the First-Vice-President of the European Commission as soon as possible about giving effect to Dublin III legislation, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade is to consult with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs on tackling the West-Balkans illegal migration pressure effectively and immediately.

The government has decided to allocate HUF 6.5 billion to constructing, and procuring materials for, the Hungarian-Serbian security border closure.
“Our goal is that the State itself should build this temporary security border fence”, he said.

As regards the legal amendments required for the construction of the temporary security border closure, he also said the government had asked the Fidesz-KDNP group to come to a “parliamentary consensus” so that the proposed amendments can be brought before the National Assembly for a discussion as soon as possible.

Also, the Minister remarked that “where there is no other effective means to prevent unlawful, that is, illegal entry, we shall resort to the construction of temporary security border fences also in the future”.
