Minister János Lázár has asked that a meeting of the Roundtable of Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz) be convened in September and has requested the cooperation of President of Mazsihisz András Heisler in a letter.

In his letter, Minister of Prime Minister’s Office Lázár emphasised that the Government regards cooperation with Hungary’s Jewish communities as strategically important, but this cooperation was hindered by several issues recently. On several occasions, Jewish communities themselves have questioned the legitimacy of the people expressing opinions on their behalf.

In the letter, Mr. Lázár stated that while also reviewing and closing the period we have recently left behind us, it is important that the Government and Jewish communities determine the main priorities of the upcoming period together so that everyone involved can identify with the jointly planned and realised programmes.
