On 10 June 2016, Minister of State for EU Affairs Szabolcs Takács met with Dutch Director for European Integration Matthijs van der Plas to review priority issues on the agenda of the June session of the European Council.

The main topics of the meeting included migration, the draft of the proposed amendment to the Posting Directive (PWD) and the British referendum on its continued EU membership. The two politicians also discussed developments in diplomatic relations between the EU and Russia and the sanctions imposed on Russia.

The parties also reviewed the progress of the visa liberalisation processes with Georgia, Ukraine and Turkey, and discussed prospects for the expansion process and energy issues.

At the meeting, the parties agreed that the unity of the European Union must be maintained, but dialogue is required to find joint solutions. Mr. Takács said that a frank exchange of views between the Member States is required with regard to the future of the EU as this is the only way of determining the realistic and necessary directions for the development of the European Union.
