Within the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority the Government will establish an international advisory council consisting of Europe-wide acknowledged experts, Minister János Lázár announced.

The task of the expert group will be to support the development of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant upgrade and – just like in the case of other European projects – it will also provide a guarantee for the proper information of the competent international parties.

The minister pointed out that the aim is to further develop the already operating Paks Nuclear Plant, to prepare the economic utility fee cut and to safeguard Hungary’s energy security and improve its efficiency, issues which are of strategic importance. In order to reach these goals, globally acknowledged experts will be invited as members of the council, so as to ensure that international standards are being respected and that the interests of Hungarian tax- and utility fee-payers are being considered.

“With the help of the advisory council, based on domestic results and on international experience, we will be able to create an even more transparent and more successfully operating plant”, Minister Lázár underlined.
