Deputy State Secretary for Development Policy Communication Nándor Csepreghy has announced that the European Commission has suspended certain payments from the previous development cycle.
Mr. Csepreghy said that approximately HUF 700 billion of the total amount allocated for the 2007–2013 period – which fell under socialist governments’ tendering procedures – has been suspended, but the Cabinet is already discussing possible solutions.
The Deputy State Secretary stressed that the technical dispute between Hungary and the responsible body of the European Union is about the selection process in the previous financial cycle, which was amended by the Government in 2014 precisely in order to make it acceptable. Mr. Csepreghy said that the resources that will not be spent on the originally planned programmes will amount to approximately a few tens of billions of forints, but they will be available for other development objectives.
