A memorial service was held today in Bavaria to commemorate the Hungarians who were taken away to and perished in the Dachau concentration camp and its sub-camps. The event, as part of which a memorial plaque prepared under the auspices of the Hungarian Government was inaugurated by Minister of Human Resources Zoltán Balog and his Bavarian counterpart, Dr Ludwig Spaenele, Minister of Education, Cultural Affairs, Science and Arts, was also attended by Dr Csaba Latorcai, Deputy State Secretary for Priority Social Affairs of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Government of Hungary rejects every form of anti-Semitism and incitement to hatred, whilst holding the commemoration of innocent victims and the true rescuers of human lives in the highest regard. The Government seeks to contribute to healing the wounds caused by World War II and the Holocaust with the programmes which serve the renovation and refurbishment of synagogues and abandoned burial sites, and for the purposes of which the Government allocated some HUF 10 billion in 2014-2015.
