“Through its awareness raising campaign, the Hungarian government highlights one of the most important problems facing Europe,” Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said on the Friday morning programme of the M1 news channel.
The Government Spokesperson emphasised that the consultation on immigration and the awareness raising campaign presented the position of the Hungarian government on the issue. “This position is not far from the opinion of several leaders of Western European countries,” he added.
Zoltán Kovács stated that the question was independent of current political interests. He added that immigration had been causing problems in Western Europe for decades, emphasising that the issue of immigration has been made very urgent by the series of tragedies in the Mediterranean area. He pointed out that “this underlines the fact that we and others have neglected this question in recent years.”
The Government Spokesperson thinks that we are facing one of the most important problems of the next 5 to 10 or 15 years in Europe.
“The campaign intends to draw attention to the issue, and also remind the public that every Hungarian citizen’s opinion regarding the twelve questions drawn up on immigration is welcome up to the end of June,” said Zoltán Kovács.
