Hungary has no choice but to restore order along its border and that of the European Union, because otherwise it will be unable to successfully stem the flow of illegal immigrants, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said on Hungarian M1 television’s “Actual Channel” programme on Thursday evening.
It is absolutely unacceptable that the authorities of countries along the so-called Western Balkan route are facilitating a mass influx of people towards the Schengen borders about whom they know absolutely nothing, the Government Spokesperson said on Hungarian M1 Television’s “Actual Channel” programme.
“Parliament could amend several pieces of legislation at its extraordinary session next week, at which the General Assembly will review the steps taken so far to protect the country’s southern border and discuss further action”, Minister of Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár announced at a press conference entitled “Government Info 20 – What is the Government doing and why?”, held jointly with Minister of State for Government Communication András Giró-Szász.
Following a government conference on Tuesday, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár said that the main topic of the conference had been the strengthening of civic consolidation.
Minister of State for Government Communication András Giró-Szász informed MTI that at a governmental conference held on Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that hard work and commitment is needed from the whole state apparatus in order to successfully carry out civic consolidation and to make it a part of everyday life.

The Government is requesting the parliamentary group of Fidesz and KDNP to initiate the convening of an extraordinary session of Parliament due to the amendments of the Penal Code in connection with illegal migration, Minister János Lázár announced during the break of the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács takes the view that it is an elementary interest of the European Union and Hungary to relay the Government’s message to those who are already on their way as, based on the relevant statistics, the vast majority of them prove to be mere economic migrants and could not expect to be granted asylum.
The Government will decide next week on launching a campaign in the migration transit countries in order to break the organised human trafficking route that leads from Hungary to the West, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office announced. János Lázár proposed to the Government at his press conference “Governmentinfo 19. What does the Government do and why?” that all Hungarian calls for proposals for the EU fiscal cycle between 2014-2020 should be published by 30 June 2017.
At a press conference in Budapest on Wednesday, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár said that a double border barrier is needed along the entire length of the 177-kilometre-long Hungarian-Serbian border.
