On Friday morning, in the Carmelite Monastery in Budapest, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Bulgarian President of the Republic Rumen Radev. The parties spoke about the inadequate European management of the migration crisis, Hungarian-Bulgarian bilateral relations and energy issues, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

Mr Orbán and Mr Radev agreed that in the past few years there has been no meaningful progress in the management of the migration crisis situation on a European level, while the threat continues to exist. The pressure of migration could intensify again at any moment, and at present the EU has no emergency plan for this event. This puts Bulgaria into an extremely difficult situation, the parties agreed.

The Hungarian Prime Minister pointed out that his government continues to look upon Bulgaria as an ally also on this issue, and is ready to give Sofia all the assistance it needs.

At the meeting, the parties spoke in words of praise about the friendship and shared historical fate of the two countries which, they said, constitute the political, spiritual and cultural foundations for the further development of relations.

The Bulgarian head of state praised the achievements of the Hungarian economy, and said that in his country the Hungarian family support system is held in high esteem.

At the meeting, the parties also spoke about the economic cooperation of China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and energy policy issues. Regarding the latter, they underlined the importance of the diversification of Europe’s raw material supply, meaning that affordable energy sources should be available from as many sources and via as many routes as possible, Mr Havasi said.
