Former Republican Member of Congress Connie Mack has been appointed Hungary’s American public advocate, tasked with involvement in the representation of the country’s interests in the United States, Press Chief of the Prime Minister's Office Bertalan Havasi announced.
“Hungary is a good friend and strategic ally of the United States in Central Europe”, Mr. Havasi said quoting Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with relation to the appointment, adding that “Mack’s task will be to assure a direct line of communication between the U.S. media and American decision makers, and the Prime Minister’s Office”.
“This is necessary to facilitate better understanding of Hungary, freedom and the NATO alliance’s commitments with respect to Iran”, the information provided reads, according to which Connie Mack declared: “It is an honour to represent the interests of one of the United States’ most important European allies. The tough economic and defence policy decisions that Hungary has made – and continues to make every day – have made Hungary into a beacon of freedom and independence in a region, which is currently facing several external threats”.
Parallel to the announcement, the Government Information Centre issued a statement concerning the fact that it had launched the Hungary Insights website, which is aimed at increasing awareness of the strategic, economic and cultural importance of American-Hungarian relations.
Lobbyist Connie Mack represented the state of Florida in Congress between 2005 and 2013 and was also a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
