Prime Minister Viktor Orbán asked President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy in a letter on Tuesday to take action in protecting the Christians in Iraq.
The Hungarian Government is deeply concerned about the brutal violence that threatens the very existence of the Christian community in Iraq, he wrote, adding that the situation is increasingly intolerable and the European Council must make a resolute response.
The Prime Minister asked Rompuy to include in the agenda of the European Council's next meeting at the end of August a discussion of the Christian community's situation in Iraq. He confirmed that Hungary supports all solutions that guarantee the existence and future of the Christian community.
