„Without the reunification of Germany, the former communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe could not have regained their freedom and the reunification of Europe would also have been unsuccessful”, Viktor Orbán said in his speech at the headquarters of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Munich.

In his speech marking the 25th anniversary of the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, the Prime Minister emphasised that in 1989-90 it was by no means certain that freedom and democracy would be permanent and a feeling of reversibility “was in the air”.

The “only guarantee” against reversal was German reunification, which accordingly served the liberation and permanent emancipation of both Germany and the other “slave nations”, including Hungary, and this is why the Hungarians will always be grateful to the Germans, the Prime Minister added.
