Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s Press Chief, has told kormany.hu that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote a letter of congratulations to Aleksandar Vučić on his landslide victory in the Serbian presidential election. Mr. Orbán also expressed the hope that the successful Serbian-Hungarian strategic relations witnessed in recent years will continue to develop at the same pace.

In his letter wishing Mr. Vučić health and success in his “new role of responsibility”, Mr. Orbán wrote the following: “It is my firm belief that your victory is a clear recognition of your work as prime minister. Under your leadership Serbia has become a major contributor to regional stability, and has made significant steps towards gaining EU membership. In this cause Hungary will continue to provide all possible political and specialist support”.

Aleksandar Vučić, former prime minister of Serbia, won Sunday’s presidential election and will be the first prime minister to become president of the country.
