Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief, has said that in the Parliament Building in Budapest Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and United States Secretary of Energy Rick Perry reviewed the Central European region’s energy situation and Hungarian-US bilateral relations.

At the meeting on Tuesday afternoon – which was also attended by US Ambassador to Budapest David Cornstein, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Antal Rogán, the Prime Minister’s cabinet chief – the parties also touched upon general political issues. They confirmed that historical traditions and Christian roots must also play an important role in modern governance.

There was also agreement that energy diversification is in the fundamental interest of Hungary and Central Europe, and that therefore the region should obtain energy from as many sources as possible. Mr. Orbán welcomed US efforts and investment in this field, Mr. Havasi said.
