Upon Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s recommendation, at its Wednesday meeting the government decided to offer the Syriac Maronite Church of Antioch one million euros in order to alleviate the losses caused by the explosion that occurred in Beirut, Bertalan Havasi, the head of the Press Office of the Prime Minister informed the Hungarian news agency MTI.

He added that they will immediately reallocate the funds and will disburse them as part of the Hungary Helps Programme.

Mr Havasi also highlighted that during the day Mr Orbán, President of Fidesz, sent a message of condolences to the Lebanese Christian party, a member of the Centrist Democrat International (CDI) together with Fidesz, after it transpired that Kataeb Party Secretary General Nazar Najarian had also lost his life in the explosion on Tuesday.
