If the re-intensifying flow of migration sets out from Turkey for Europe, rather than for Syria, then the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia are ready to provide help with the protection of Hungary’s borders, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief informed the Hungarian news agency MTI after the Brussels consultation of the leaders of the Visegrád countries ahead of the EU summit on Thursday.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán agreed with the prime ministers of the V4 countries that there is a realistic threat that another major migration flow may start from Turkey towards Europe if the efforts to create a safe zone in Syria for returning refugees fail.
The Hungarian Prime Minister asked his Visegrád partners to send border protection forces to Hungary’s southern borders in the above eventuality as they have done before.
Andrej Babis, Mateusz Morawiecki and Peter Pellegrini supported Mr Orbán’s proposal, and pledged that they would be ready to give Hungary all the necessary assistance, including the sending of border protection troops, Mr Havasi said.
