Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with leaders of the International Swimming Federation FINA in Parliament on Monday.
The parties discussed preparations for the 2017 World Junior Swimming Championships and the World Aquatics Championships to be hosted four years later. Particular focus was given to the planned new swimming complex that will host both major swimming events.
The sides agreed that preparations for both events are right on track. The FINA delegation included Julio C. Maglione, the federation's president, Paolo Barelli, its honorary secretary, and Cornel Marculescu, its executive director.
The meeting was attended by Lajos Kósa, the chairman of the Hungarian committee organising the two events, Tamás Gyárfás, the head of the Hungarian Swimming Federation, and Dénes Kemény, the president of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation.
Government commissioner and head of the National Sports Centre László Vigh said in February that the new six-floor swimming complex is set to become a new spectacle in northern Budapest and is planned to be completed by the end of 2016.
