Press Chief of the Prime Minister’s Office Bertalan Havasi has informed MTI that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó have held a number of individual meetings in Brussels as part of the EU-Latin America summit.
On Thursday morning the Prime Minister attended the meeting of Visegrád countries, where the issue of immigration was high on the agenda.
Minister Szijjártó held talks with Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana María Sánchez on Hungary joining the Pacific Alliance as an observer. Latin American countries support this idea, and a final decision will be made at the beginning of July, the Press Chief added.
Items covered in the meeting included Peru’s status as one of the most open economies in the world, its several free trade agreements, and the fact that it is in Hungary’s interest for a free trade agreement between the EU and Peru to be signed as soon as possible.
Mr. Szijjártó pointed out that Hungary has already taken the steps necessary for ratification of the agreement, and it is urging its partners to approve the agreement.
The Hungarian Exim Bank has opened a USD 300 million credit line to support Hungarian enterprises in the Peruvian market. Furthermore, an agreement was also signed on receiving twenty students from Peru.
