Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Thornbjorn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe had a meeting on Friday morning in Gothenburg, Sweden, to discuss the Ukrainian education law and issues currently on the agenda of the Council of Europe, Bertalan Havasi, the Deputy State Secretary heading the Press Office of the Prime Minister told the correspondent of the Hungarian news agency MTI in Gothenburg.

The new Ukrainian education law which is completely contrary to Ukraine’s integration aspirations in the opinion of Hungary as well as of a number of other neighbouring countries was one of the most important topics of the meeting of the Hungarian Prime Minister, who arrived in the city in order to attend the EU Social Summit, and the Secretary General.

The parties reiterated: it is a fundamental principle in Europe that any already attained minority rights cannot be taken away or curtailed. This principle must be enforced in this instance as well as in all other similar cases.
