On Tuesday, after his visit to Ajka and Sümeg, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that “We are proud of what we have achieved together in Ajka, and based on this performance I have asked for people’s trust.”
In his statement, which was broadcast live by national TV channel M1, the Prime Minister explained that the city of Ajka is a success story, as its unemployment rate is only around 3 per cent – which means that it has finally succeeded in reaching a state of near full employment.
According to the Prime Minister, the success of Ajka is the joint result of local people’s work, the municipal council and the Government’s supportive policy. “Therefore, I have no reason to assume that the people of Ajka would look on us with aversion,” Mr. Orbán said.
Talking about his meeting with the Mayor of Sümeg, the Prime Minister said that they had discussed the city’s adventurous and ambitious development plans, which “may result in a number of investments each worth hundreds of millions of forints, and in hundreds of jobs.”
As an example, Mr. Orbán mentioned the “completion” of Sümeg Castle and investments in the food industry, which will be on the agenda of the cabinet meeting in two weeks’ time.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that he always participates in election campaigns, as a prime minister’s task is to personally visit those places where people are about to make important decisions, and to meet the voters.
Over the last five years, local leaders and the Government “have carried out very serious work” in the three large settlements in the Tapolca electoral district. Ajka is now completely different from how it used to be, Tapolca is also a successful city, and only the highest praise can be used to describe Sümeg, Mr. Orbán said.
