Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is conducting intensive talks in Brussels, ahead of the Tuesday working meeting of the European Council, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief told the government website kormany.hu. The Tuesday meeting was originally scheduled for 11.00 a.m. but it had not yet started by three in the afternoon.

Since yesterday evening, Mr Orbán has been engaged in ongoing talks with the EU’s leaders and the heads of state and government in the Council. In addition to others, he has had talks with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, French head of state Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Mr Havasi said.

He added that Mr Orbán is maintaining continuous consultations with the prime ministers of the Visegrád partner countries – the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia; since yesterday evening, they have consulted in person several times, but they are also engaged in ongoing “hotline” telephone communication.
