On behalf of the Hungarian people, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán offered his sympathy and support to French President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and Archbishop of Reims Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, President of the Bishops’ Conference of France, in connection with the tragic fire involving Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Bertalan Havasi said.

In his letters sent to the two leaders, the Hungarian Prime Minister highlighted that Notre-Dame Cathedral is a symbol for all Christians around the world which represents not only the holiness of the mother of Jesus Christ, but with its history of hundreds of years also the joint shelter of our faith. We pay tribute to the heroic struggle of Paris firefighters with which they succeeded in putting out the blazing flames, thereby saving one of the symbols of European Christianity from complete destruction, Mr Orbán wrote. The Prime Minister wished them strength, and asked for God’s blessing with the reconstruction of the cathedral and the restoration of its old glory, Mr Havasi said relating the contents of the messages.
